PMS, visiting teaching, fingernail, and dandelions

Some months I feel like I have PMS, MS, and Post MS. I told that to Sean and he said that he better not comment on that, so I'm sure that I have had all of those for the last few months, sheesh, can we get a break as women? I'm on the verge of tears all of the time, even for happy stuff, or just driving down the road for no apparent reason.

I went visiting teaching today, yes, the last day of the month thank you very much. I got it done, I'm so glad that I can say that when my visiting teaching supervisor calls me. Our sisters we visit are such cuties, it's so fun getting to know people better, I love it. I just need to get my booty going every month and get it done, it's so nice when I've got it done.

I'm losing my fingernail. I had some strange infection in the tip of my finger a few months ago after I got my pin out of my wrist (apparently nothing to do with each other). I was trying to push back my cuticle last night and noticed that it's not my cuticle, it's the end of my poor fingernail. I can say goodbye to that fingernail in a month or so I suppose, it's been so good to me over the years.

I'm having an overwhelming feeling this week, with just being a mom and wife, our calling (odds and ends that need to be done), work, laundry (I haven't done any and desperately need too, but instead I'm sitting here at the computer), looking around my house and looking at all that needs to be cleaned or organized or put away, thinking that I need to spend more time with my kids, just playing with them rather than just watching or letting them play around me. I have spent time out in the yard doing some yard work, planting flowers and weeding, which brings me to my profound thought for the day. Why do we consider dandelions weeds? Other than them growing in the grass which we want totally pristine and green. They are a really pretty bright yellow color, they are soft, when they go to seed it's always fun for the kids to pick them and blow them (to create more in your lawn), and the broad leaf is soft it's not all pokey like the other nasty weeds. I just have a gigazillion in my back lawn and wonder if they will ever go away with the fertilizer we put on them, or if we are stuck with them, so I started thinking about them today.

Getting Pregnant...

I had a conversation with a friend of mine today, talking about a friend of hers trying to get pregers and can't. I felt like my story might be blog worthy if it could some how help someone else out. So if you know someone who is having the same kind of problem, let them know. I know I was pretty desperate and would have tried most anything.

When we decided to have another baby Connor was 1 1/2, I always wanted my kids 2 years apart, cause there is an 8 year gap between my next oldest sister and I. I always envied my friends who were close in age to their siblings. Things didn't quite turn out how I'd planned, of course. I got pregnant pretty quickly only to have a miscarriage, followed by 5 more. After my 6th miscarriage I didn't get pregnant for a year and a half. My health was really poor, it seemed that with every miscarriage I would get sicker and sicker, I always felt really crappy and had no energy, I had depression it was a huge bummer. I had tried progesterone therapy and clomid, which was horrible, it made me feel pregnant, I never was, but always thought maybe I could be! It was a really low time in my life, the hardest I've gone through yet, having a baby occupied almost my every thought. Finally, I'd pretty much given up on getting pregnant and wanted to just worry about getting me healthy. My mom had heard about these vitamins from USANA from a lady she worked with. I started taking them and after about a week or two, I had energy! I felt so great! It was the biggest difference for me. After a few months I was really looking forward to a new workout regimen but gladly gave it up because lo and behold... I found out that I was pregnant! It was such a great thing to feel really good and have my wish come true to be pregnant, I was just worried every minute that I was going to lose this one too. I continued taking the vitamins until I was about 12 weeks or so, I got too sick and would throw them up so I quit taking them. I carried my baby to full term, I was super sick (I was just as sick with Connor). So I spent lots of time in bed and in front, above and below the toilet. Zofran was my friend. We hope to maybe someday have another baby, but we'll just have to see what the Lord has in store for us. I don't think that I can go through many more miscarriages, I think after only one more, I'd have myself 'fixed' it's not something that I want to go through ever again, not to say that our baby boy isn't worth it, he's worth all of it. The sweet little short and squishy he is.
I don't sell USANA anymore, but I can put you in touch with someone who does, just let me know. I totally thought that this was the difference for me, because I hadn't done anything else different I was off of all of the other meds. So... for whatever it's worth... ya know!

Polygamy, eeek!

We went to Moab again this last weekend. I'll get some pictures posted. We went with my sister and her family. They got a new motor home and had to try it out. It was fun going with them on their maiden voyage!

My sister let me borrow her book called "Escape" by Carolyn Jessop, It's the life story of a lady raised in the FLDS church, she was married off when she was 18, she 'escaped' when she was 35 with her 8 children. The whole polygamy thing has always interested me, I've never known much about it, it's all been a mystery to me. I'm not really the 'sharing type' I guess, so I never understood why one would want to be a "sister wife". After reading this book, I really don't understand it. I'm sure there was a time and a place for it, I'm just glad that this isn't the time or place for it. This woman had some serious courage I think. I don't know what I would have done if I'd have been in her position. I couldn't put the book down though, I was reading it while we were driving on the trails (until I'd get sick), and read it in bed and on the way home. Now I'm trying to listen to all of the news stories that are on right now about the kids that were removed from the YFZ compound in TX. When you are raised in that religion and you are taught that everyone on the outside is evil and are all going to hell, I'm sure they were all traumatized. I don't think they let them have any outside contact at all, they took away books, TV, public school (not that their public school was really very public). Any way, I feel bad for the kids and some of the wives. The kids were probably freaking out that these evil people were taking them away, and the wives are probably scared to speak out that the kids are being abused and so are they.

I'm so grateful for my husband, and that I was able to choose him. I'm grateful for our religion and all of the freedom that we have, and that our church teaches that abuse is bad, it's not something that is normal for men to abuse their wives and children. It's a fascinating book, I recommend it, it's a little disturbing, but fascinating!

Giant Squids Have "Technicals"

Connor just came to tell me about "a giant squid and it had spikes on it's 'technicals' to help it grab it's prey very easily." What a funny cutie pie! I love the funny little things that he tells me all of the time. I wish I could remember them all. I should write them down so I can always have a good giggle.

We Have Teeth!

Yesterday Jack turned 8 months old and with it brought two new teeth. He's finally getting teeth! I was beginning to worry. I'm so excited for some reason to see those little bittys break through. He's been a good little guy, he hasn't complained too much... well not much more than normal.

My new favorites sayings from the movie "Only Angels Have Wings": "I'll be there next week at 2 o'clock" and "Yes, they have no bananas."

WOW... how can they tell??

So I saw this on Tara's blog, and thought it would be interesting to see what they say about my name.

What Teri Means

You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless - and you have a lot of questions about life.

You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You're most comfortable when you're far away from home.

You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.

You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.

At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.

You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.

You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.

You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.

You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

A lot of it is so true for me, I've gotta do my boys names, maybe I should have done some research first...

Moab Trip

We had way too much fun in Moab, we didn't want to come home. I was so proud of Connor, he told me "Mom, this is so much more fun than playing video games." He was a rock star! He rode his bike a bit on slick rock. I couldn't believe the hills he would go down, and pedal his heart out to get back up, what a beast (as aunt Brenda would say)!

I've kind-of bailed on my 5 am workouts, I decided it was just to darn early. I did get a work out though in Moab. I did the Slick Rock practice loop, it's 2.3 miles (patting self on back). This trail is CRAZY! I had a really hard time right until the very end, I think I finally got the hang of it. Now I can't wait to do it again. At the beginning my brother was trying to teach me how to do a down hill part, he was holding onto my bike, it was hilarious, I felt like I was 5, it was like he was teaching me to ride my bike all over again. Here I am right at the very end.
I felt sorry for everyone who had to wait for me. My brother and nephew are in awesome shape and were awesome to wait for me. Thanks guys!

The boys rode Gemini Bridges, it was really sandy, I wouldn't have enjoyed the ride. I drove next to them. The drive was fun. What troopers.

We wanted to take my sisters family on Fins-n-things in their new FJ Cruiser. We had lots of fun on that trail when we did it before, it's my favorite trail. We did the hard obstacles, and when it got dark, lost our way. Sean was having a blast, totally in his element, but me... not so much. I don't like not knowing where I am in the dark, the stars were amazing though. We found our way and made it back to camp by 10ish, but we missed the fun part of the trail, oh well maybe next time. It was my nephews first time off roading like that. I don't think they liked the getting lost part. Hind sight... It was lots of fun. Too short of a trip, next time we'll have to plan a longer trip.
