Crib Down - Big Girl Bed Up!

Chloe now has a big girl bed-bye bye baby (wiping tear away).
I found this little diddy on KSL for FREE! I LOVE free (thanks Tracy, your the best!).
It needed a little fixing up, I glued some split wood together and patched it. I made a trip to Lowes for some missing hardware, and Voila! Chloe's new bed.
She likes to play on it during the day and thankfully she fell asleep in it last night all by herself! The first few nights I had to lay with her (I'm sure that was quite a sight).

These are a few looks I'm trying out. We are lucky to have some beautiful quilts! I need to get a new sheet for the other quilts, and she needs a little pillow to match, but it's darn cute!

Jack loves it too!

P.S. That was the second time we did rollers in her hair... it. didn't. quite. work. out. either time. I'll keep trying though.

New Armoire

The Christmas tree is down, so we were able to put our new armoire in the house. We got it to store all of my sewing and crafting stuff in because I lost my sewing room. My sis-in-law Steff found them on Craigs list for $40 at a hotel surplus sale. I recruited my Pops to take me up to SL in his truck instead of borrowing his trailer (I'm so glad I did, these bad boys are soooo heavy!) Thanks again Steff!
Jack was great to help screw in the screws in the top.
Chloe and Jack found a great new place to hide, they played here for a few days straight.
It started here and...

Ended up here.

I don't have much in it yet, but it will get loaded soon!

Chloe + Spaghetti = Bath

More proof that everything must go in hair.

Blech! and Ahhh

I have a giant headache, the kind that makes me feel like I need to lean over the porcelain potty. I drank a little more than half of an extra large Mr. Pibb, after not having soda in a loooonnnnggg time. Too much caffeine maybe? Or the lack of sleep I've had lately? I finally have a 3 yr old who sleeps all night, but the toddler wakes up at 3 or 3:30 am no matter what time she goes to sleep, which is when Sean leaves for work, and I can't go back to sleep.

Right now I'm watching the 3 yr old bounce his head on his bed over and over, there's something wrong with that child but, boy, do I love him! Children can frustrate you like no other and make you love like no other, he's been mr. NO! lately, grrrrr, 'tis the time I guess. Lots of time outs and tears... from both of us.

All I ever wanted after having children is to be able to stay at home with them to raise them myself (and with my wonderful husband of course). As with most people I'm sure, financially, it's a challenge to do so. There are many days lately, when I have two screaming little ones or a mr. NO! in my face or I'm leaning down cleaning up dirt off the floor and down the stairs that was flung out of the plant pot (2 days in a row), that I think "I really don't like my job, really, really don't like it". Then I get the sweetest hug around my back to tell me that she's sorry, or the sweetest little voice saying "Mommy, help, pleeeeese?", or the little boy pinning the big boy on the ground trying to kiss him on the mouth, or the most awesome hug from my 9 yr old and he tells me that I'm "the best mom in the whole world!" Of course I'm not but it's so nice to hear. It's then that I realize how very very lucky and blessed I am, to have the job I've always wanted, and the best husband that there ever was to make it work for us. I'm so grateful for my life. I complain a lot, and I even caught myself saying "This has been the worst day ever!" but it wasn't. I'm so, so glad that I've never had the worst day ever, and I really hope that I never do, because that would mean that I've lost someone that I love so very much. I am so grateful to love so fully and to be loved. Nothing makes life better than that!

What's that smell?? OH NO!

The other night, I was busily working in the kitchen when I think to myself "It smells like Mentholatum, weird." I look down and see my sweet little Chloe standing next to me to show me her "pitty" hair.

She was so proud that she had done her hair so nicely. She had plastered her hair with Mentholatum, which is like vaseline with menthol in it. Oh my! After I made sure she didn't have it in her eyes, I ran downstairs, where she had come from, to see what else was covered with the lovely smelling stuff. The mentholatum was just sitting nicely on the sofa with the lid off next to it. She was a girl on a mission, no messing around. She was awfully quick, Sean had run upstairs just a minute before.

She was so proud when I took her upstairs to show daddy what his little girl did. She said "pitty!" over and over. We were laughing so hard.

I got her in the bath and started washing her hair and I knew we were in trouble, it was so not coming out. I washed it about 5 times, then asked Sean if he had any ideas, he thought of baking soda because it removes grease, that was a no go. I called Nat, because she has 3 boys, perhaps one of them had done it at one time. Dave answered, Natelli was unavailable at the moment, so I asked him. He didn't really know what Mentholatum was so I told him it's like petroleum jelly/Vaseline. He said he didn't think that his kids had ever gotten it in their hair. He asked Nat (who, in her defense, was in the shower). Dave said "One of Teri's kids put petroleum in their hair." Nat quickly replied with "She needs to call Questar Gas!" Dave tells me to call them. I laughed and said "umm.... okay, thanks Dave. Bye." I didn't call Questar, I didn't think they'd be able to help me. I called my sister, she didn't know what takes the stuff out. I called my mom, she didn't answer. Nat called me back, laughing so hard! What she heard was "Teri has petroleum in the air." Also Vaseline sounds like gasoline which he also said. We still didn't think Questar could help, Nat included. She asked if I'd googled it, so after I could see again because I'd been laughing so hard I was crying, I googled it. The first page I looked at said Vaseline is nearly impossible to get out of hair and had 13 suggestions. The first being glycerin soap. I thought that would be the easiest, who would have glycerin soap? One of my neighbors came to mind. I called her, and her daughter came to my rescue, she had some! I tried that, it didn't work. Chloe was so tired, I just had to put her to bed with menthol grease hair. Connor and I kept reading the suggestions and were laughing so hard imagining what Chloe would let us do to her. Some of them being; a beaten egg, peanut butter, melting it with a hair dryer followed by blotting with a paper towel then shampoo, Coke, liquid dish soap, Tide laundry soap followed by a vinegar rinse, whiskey, it said it burns like crazy but it'll do the trick (no thanks, not on my baby), toothpaste, and lastly it said if all else fails use baby oil (more oil? no thank you!). When I got her out of bed in the morning her hair was all matted and greasy. I decided to try the baby oil cause it really couldn't get worse, right? I was getting excited thinking, it felt like it was coming out. Then I shampooed twice. She'd had it with me by this point and was clawing her way out of the tub. After it dried it was super shiny at least, but really oily.

I finally got a hold of my mom, she was laughing so hard she could hardly breath and asked if I took pictures (she didn't want to miss this one), but had no suggestions for me. Sean called from work to see if we got it out. Everyone at work had been googling what to do. Someone said to do olive oil followed by dish soap, I figured that was pretty much like baby oil so I put the sweet little girl back in the tub for a few more tries. I washed her hair with palmolive twice and shampooed twice, and Viola! She had beautiful hair again.

So, note to self: If anyone else smothers their hair in any petroleum based product, baby oil followed by liquid dish soap will do the trick. Sigh. It's all just a fun memory now. I'm glad I didn't have to call Questar for the petroleum!

Connor is 9!!!

Yesterday was Connor's 9th birthday!
He was so excited for his birthday, but couldn't decide what to do.
Two days before his birthday he told us he wanted to have a friend party, I told him that it is too late. So once again we just had a family party for him.

I wanted to do something fun for him to make his day memorable and fun. I posted a question on facebook what my friends do in their families to make their days special. I had some really great replies and I did some of them. (Chrys, I didn't do yours because I need more time to plan, but I'm going to next year!)

I decorated his bedroom door and the house while he was at school.
We beat a pinata to pieces (not really it wouldn't break open, so we had to tear it open).
Connor had his choice for dinner, he chose a pot pie.
Jack and Chloe picked out some presents for him.

He just couldn't wait to open his presents, they had been sitting out for a week. He had to wait for Dad to get home, so right when he got home he got the presents and asked to open them.
He was super happy to get an xbox live account and was even more happy when he found out he didn't need anything else to go with it, for it to work.

He was over the moon that he got the Halo Reach game that he's wanted since it came out, we are mean and made him wait for his birthday, he didn't know he was getting it.

Connor had 9 candles to blow out this year and Jack blew them out in one breath! We had to relight the candles so Connor could blow them out.

All in all it was a good day and Connor said it was his best birthday he's ever had! (he says that every year, but I love to hear it anyway.)
